The proposal was to strip back the existing house to the concrete structure and create a family house with a connection link to the extended family house next door.
The house design was formed as a reaction to climate and location. Roof valleys were created to form rainwater collectors. The south elevation is protected by a ventilation shaft that heats up at high level and create a "stack effect" to facilitate a natural ventilation mechanism to the house. Wind flow in the area causes negative pressure on top of the chimney stake and encourages air movement within the house. The North elevation of the house extended with a double story screen to filter out mosquitoes and at the same time allow fresh air to move through the building. The area immediately in front of the house will have trees and shrubs to 1) lower the air temperature and 2) as filters for cleaner air.
